How to Use SocialMarker.com to Get Backlinks to Your Article (And Help it Rank Higher in the Search Engines)

Submitting to Social Marker

Step #1

Fill in the details of your article in the “Bookmark details” section:

Step #2

Now you need to choose the social bookmarking sites that you want to bookmark your site to.

Just press the “Dofollow” button to choose only the sites that proide your article with do-follow links (a “no-follow” link is a link that is marked with the “no-follow” tag, which means that google and the other search engines don’t give value to that link. Many web 2.0 sites mark their links with the no-follow tag). Although I have seen where I actually get credited a link from NOFOLLOW sites)

Note: Your article title will be the anchor text of that link.  The anchor text is very important to your ranking.

The search engines look at the anchor text of the links that come into a page to determine its rankings. For example: If you have a link with the anchor text “Blue widgets”, it will help your page to rank for the search term “blue widgets” whenever someone does a search for that term. BUT… Do NOT have all your links say the same thing. keep about 30% of your bookmarks with the exact same keyord that you want to rank for as the anchor text, and the remaining links with an anchor text that similiar to it.

For example, if you want your article to rank for the phrase: “how to make money online easily” 30% of your titles should be “how to make money online easily” while the other 70% of your titles should say stuff like: “making money online easily”, “how you can make money online the easy way” etc. This is very easy to do with Social Marker, as you will see for yourself when you do it.

The same goes for your other linking efforts. Never link too much to the same page with the same anchor text. The search engines will see right through that. You don’t want it to appear like you are “manufactoring” links.

Step #3

Now it’s time to bookmark your article. After you press the submit button, you will be take throgh each one of the sites that you chose to bookmark your article with. If you do not have an account with them, you will have to create one.

Step #4

Once you have begun the submitting process, an area will appear at the bottom of the page with all the details that you just filled in. You can drag and drop that information into the appropriate fields when you submit a bookmark.

Step #5

When you are done with one site, continue to the next one by pressing the “Next” button.

You’re Done! Now you will have some backlinks going to your article giving it a little “push” in the search engines and helping it rank higher. Now it’s time to go to the next linking strategy, which is much more powerful than the one I just showed you (although it does take a bit more time.)

In the next training module I will show you how you can make an article “spin-ready”, so you can easily have unique content to post to content sharing sites with a link back to your main article. (if you don’t know what article “spinning” is, don’t worry, I show you everything you need to know about it in the next training module.)

How to Post Your Unique Content to Web 2.0 Sites

How to Post Your Unique Content to Web 2.0 Sites

Posting to Web 2.0 sites is very easy.  Just copy one of the spun versions of your article and submit it to the different sites.

Let’s look at how we can do it manually, but effectively, and even before that, let’s look at a couple of guidelines you should keep in mind:

Since you will be posting 250-350 word articles to these sites, it would be best if you only place up to 2 links in each post (If your articles are 400 or bigger, you can post 3 links). If you do have more than one link on a webpage, have the links go to different articles that you want to promote (having more than one link one a page go to another webpage is a poor use of a link).

DO NOT use the same anchor text every time you link to an article. Use the 30%/70% percent rule. The anchor text of 30% of your links should be the keyword that you are trying to rank for, while the remaining 70% should be similiar keywords.

Now to the actual article submission:

First of all, you need to open up an account with each one of these sites. Remember, you will only have to do this once, so it’s ok if it’s a bit time consuming.

Now, open a new account with any one of the social bookmarking site. I like delicious. Social bookmark each one of the sites that you are going to post your content on (you’l see why we do this in a second).

Now, lets say that you want to submit a new article. Open up the social bookmarking account where you bookmarked all of the web 2.0 properties where you will post your article.

Next, right click on each one of them and open them in a new tab. Post your article in the site that’s in the open tab and then close that tab. Repeat with all the web 2.0 properties you want to post your content to.

Like with the article writing and spinning, our aim here is to do things as streamlined, automatic and fast as possible, making the work itself require the least amount of conscious thought and effort.
Taking it Up a Notch

What does SEnuke do? Everything I taught you to do… and more…

It creates accounts at all the social bookmarking and content sharing sites… automatically.

It bookmarks pages… automatically.

It submits “spin-ready” articles (placing a unique article on each site)… automatically

It saves the addresses of the pages that it created so it can bookmark them (adding more link power to your network)… automatically…

It submits the RSS feeds of all the pages that it created for you (pushing yet even MORE link power and search engine attention to your pages and articles)… automatically.

It submits videos… automatically.

Oh… I almost forgot… did I mention it does everything for you automatically?

This is becoming a bit too much like a sales pitch, but it’s just that I really love this piece of software. You can get SO MUCH accomplished with this software and end up with so much more money in your bottom line by using this tool.

It is a bit pricey… $127 a month (ouch!), but to me it’s totally worth it.

There is a free trial, though. You can take it for a spin for 7 days.

In fact, I suggest that you submit several articles to EzineArticles and once they are approved, then sign up for your free 7 day trial and use those 7 days to promote these articles. If you only promote 2 articles a day (write a spin-ready version of that article and submit it through SEnuke) you will be able to get a few of them to rank high in the search engines, and sending you affiliate sales on autopilot, month after month, as long as they stay up there.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are going to do this way, make sure that you sign up to the free trial AFTER you had articles accepted to EzineArticles. They usually take 7-10 days to accept an article, so if you submit your articles and then sign up, you won’t have any page out there to actually promote using the power of SEnuke, and you will waste your 7 day trial).

With the 7 days of SEnuke and just 2 hours of work a day, you can easily create the monthly income you can use to pay the monthly fees of the software.

I truly believe that SEnuke must be a part of your long-term strategy. It’s just such a big time and headache saver, and in the end, the only resource you have a limited amount of is time. By investing in SEnuke you are exchanging cash for time – time that you can then exchange for more cash. Time is money. Time is leverage. Your time is too important to spend it on filling out forms and submitting articles, even if you’re doing it the fast and efficient way that I showed you.

Besides, SEnuke does more than what I showed you in this series (stuff like bookmarking the articles that you submit and submitting RSS feedds). The reason I didn’t show you everything is because I don’t want to encumber you with to much stuff – I wanted to hand you an actionable and easy to execute plan you can take right away and start working at it, get traffic, and generate sales.

Another reason I didn’t show you everything, is because I don’t believe that extra stuff is worth your time compared to the results that they give you. But when you have SEnuke to do it for you, it’s definitely going to give you that extra “edge” that you need to get more attention and traffic from the search engines.

The Right Way of Spinning articles

The right way of spinning articles

So, what is the correct way to spin articles so you get the maximum benefit for your efforts in terms of the results that you get and the amount of time and effort that you put into it?

You simply rewrite each sentence twice (having a total of 3 variations for each sentence). Not having to worry for each individual phrase while writing what comes to mind (while keeping the flow of the article) saves you a lot of time and effort. It really does make the process much less tedious, and you will be surprised at how fast you get used to doing it.

Two important things to remember:

1.You don’t need to rewrite the sentence to say the exact same thing each time.

You just need to write a sentence that makes sense in the flow of the article. We aren’t trying to impress any reader here. You probably won’t be getting any readers for these articles. (Remember – these are just to put links in.The only article that’s supposed to gain traffic from this process is your main EzineArticles article.

The only reason why we are doing this instead of just posting gibberish to the web 2.0 sites is because the search engines DO know how to recognize “real” content (don’t ask me how because I don’t know myself) and because the more important web 2.0 sites have human reviewers that will just kick your article out of their site if it’s just nonesense, so you do need an article that flows well.)

For example: “We live in hard economic times” and “In this day and age everyone is yearning for some extra cash” might say different things, but in 99% percent of the time, they could easily replace each other in an article without anyone ever noticing the swith, and they are completely different, making each variation of your article more unique.

2. Try to use different words with each variation that you write for a single sentence (but don’t sweat too much over it).

While it will make your article more unique and you should definitely give it a little thought, you really shouldn’t let this strain you.

After you’re done “spinning” the article, you can now go to JetSpinner and create unique variations of that article.

  • Step #1: Create a free account with JetSpinner
  • Step #2: Click on “Articles” – Then click on “Add Jetspinner Article”
  • Step #3: Fill in the article title (should also be in a spin ready syntax), insert your spin ready article in the “Body” box, pick the number of articles you want to create (I normally pick 40), and then press the “Create” button:
  • Step #4: Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and press the “Download Zip File of XX Spun Articles” button:

Now all you have to do is submit these articles to the web 2.0 sites, just like I show you in the next post.

Why Spin Articles?

Why Spin Articles?

The search engines love unique content, and they like to see that the links that are coming to your pages are placed inside unique content.  But you can’t possibly produce so much unique content. That is where spinning comes into play.

Spinning articles is a method of creating unique articles so that you get the most value out of every link that you point to your article without writing a unique article every time that you post a new piece of content on the web.

Why Most People Are Doing it WRONG

There’s a lot of software out there that lets you spin words withing your article with a click of a button. You just press a word or phrase, and the software gives you a couple of different alternatives you can use to replace that word or phrase.

It might soud great on paper (just press your mouse button and poof! you’ve got a spin-ready article), but in reality that’s a horrible way of spinning articles!

Why is this?  Well -

1. It’s inefficient and slow

It may seem easy and fast because you don’t have to write anything for yourself, but the process itself doesn’t flow well at all. You see, with this process, you have to stop and think with every word!

Every time you click a word, a buch of options will appear for the word or phrase that can replace it, and you will need to stop and think which words make sense in that context… and that takes thought, and let me tell you something: Thinking is the most strenuous activity there is.

At the end of the article, you will just feel beat… and you will notice that it took you very long to get that one article done, with all of the stopping that you did. Remember this key concept that you should apply whenever you want to get things done fast (and especially things you need to do over and over again): Conscious thought is your enemy.

It will drain you of your energy and it will slow you down. You need to make the article spinning activity as streamlined and “automatic” as possible.
2. It’s Ineffective

It just doesn’t get the job done. The search engines like to see an article that’s at least 30% unique, and this way of doing things usually gets it to the 15% range. That’s just not good enough if you want to get the maximum value for every link that you create.

How to Make Your Article “Spin-Ready”

How to Make Your Article “Spin-Ready”

What is a “Spin-Ready” Article?

A “spin-ready” article is an article that is structured in a format where sentences or words within the article are written in certain variations and in a certain syntax, that when ran through a special software, will produce unique versions of the article.

Confused a bit? Let me give you an example:

Let’s say the first sentence of my article is: “I’m a short man and I carry a few extra pounds”.  Now, if I want to use this article over and over again, and I would like to “spin” it, when I create my spin-ready article, that sentence will look like this:

{I’m a short man|I am not a tall person} and {I carry a few extra pounds|I’m a bit overweight}.

The squiggly brackets surround the text that you want to spin, and the dividing line divides the different variations of the text you want to spin.

Note: This specific sytax is used by a free spinning software called JetSpinner. Other software may use a different syntax (but this is actually the most common one).

Now, If I actually take this sentence and run it through JetSpinner, I will get these 4 different variations:

  • I’m a short man and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I’m a short man and I’m a bit overweight
  • I am not a tall person and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I am not a tall person and I’m a bit overweight

If you take a full article and “spin” it you will end up with a very unique piece of content.

Now if you really wanted to put more variations into the above sentence you could add them in quite easily.  Here’s an example:

{{I’m|I am} a short man|{I am|I’m} not a tall person} and {I carry a few extra pounds|{I am|I’m} a {bit|little} overweight}.

With this method of changing you can get many more variations

  • I’m a short man and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I’m a short man and I’m a bit overweight
  • I am not a tall person and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I am not a tall person and I’m a bit overweight
  • I am a short man and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I am a short man and I’m a bit overweight
  • I am a short man and I’m a little overweight
  • I’m a short man and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I’m a short man and I’m a bit overweight
  • I’m a short man and I’m a little overweight
  • I’m not a tall person and I carry a few extra pounds
  • I’m not a tall person and I’m a bit overweight
  • I’m not a tall person and I’m a little overweight

Now I don’t know about you but this is a lot better and easier to do.  This way you can go through your article and make lots of changes and also have about 5 or 100 different articles (well in Google’s eyes anyway).

Now go and get yourself spinning articles and submit them.

Step by Step Plan to writing an Article

Step by Step Plan to writing an Article

There are many ways that different gurus will tell you is the best way to write an article.  I always try and and jot down ideas as I come up with an idea.

Here are some of the steps that I personally take.

Step #1:

Pick a keyword to write the article around (obvious but some people don’t think about it enough).

Step #2:

The opening paragraph – This can be broken down into 2 sub-steps.

  • part 1 – The first one or two sentences should present a problem that is suggested by the keyword phrase you chose, preferably in the form of a question, and most preferably with the word “you” used in it at. For example, the keyword phrase:  “How to start making money online” and the problem: “There is so much information out there about how you can make money online, but for someone who is just a beginner all that information just creates an overload. So the problem is: how do you cut through all the noise and useless information, and start making money online?”
  • part 2 – The second part of your opening paragraph should be a lead-in. That is, it should suck the reader into the article. Here are some proven templates you can use:
  1. * “if…. Then…” – the “If… Then…” structure is a known structure among copywriters and it is used frequently. Why? Because it’s just powerful. It is a proven structure to draw the reader into reading the rest of the article. Example: “If you read this article to the end, you will know exactly what is the best type of online business for beginners.”
  2. * A clear declaration of what you are going to cover in the article- Example: “In this article I’m going to discuss exactly how you can start your online business, and what are the best options that are available to you.”
  3. * “By the time you will finish reading this article, you will know how to…”. This is another powerful way to draw them into the article. Example: “By the time you finish reading this article, you will have a better understanding about starting an online business than 95% of other people out there starting out on the internet.”

Step #3:

The main paragraphs – your main paragraphs should give your reader 2-3 useful tips.

All you need to do is find 2-3 tips you can give away to your reader and make a paragraph out of each one. Where do you find those tips? EzineArticles and Google. Really. You don’t need to go further than that. If you are just starting out, I suggest that you just use my favorite search term in EzineArticles: “[subject name] tips” and pick 2 tips that seem valuable to you from the articles that you find.

Rewrite each one of those tips (preferably taken from different articles) and shorten them if necessary. That’s it. You have the content for your article and your article is now ready to be rapped up.

If you want a fresh source of content you may wish to consider signing up to RSS feeds of different blogs. You can sign up to the RSS feeds of internet marketing blogs that you like and get the new content of those blogs delivered straight to your google or yahoo reader.

Step #4:

Closing paragraph – You don’t need a closing paragraph. I found that a closing paragraph just DECREASES your CTR. It basically says to your reader: “The article is over. You can go away now.” Theoretically, EzineArticles doesn’t allow you to post an article to it without a closing paragraph, and that’s why many “gurus” will teach you how to write one the right way. The truth is that I NEVER include a closing paragraph in my articles and I never had an article rejected by EzineArticles on the grounds of it not having a closing paragraph.

Step #5:

Writing the title – Give some thought to your title. It’s VERY important. You need an attractive headline for 3 reasons:

1. Your article will attract more clicks on its listing in the search engines.
2. EzineArticles has its own traffic that comes from the “recently submitted” list, and the more attractive your article title is, the more people will click on it.
3. You will have more of your reader’s attention from the moment he starts reading your article, making it easier for you to get him to read down to your resource box.

How do you write an attractive headline?

How do you write an attractive headline?

Include a benefit

Every title you write should at least imply a benefit the reader will get from reading your article.

“How to” headlines work like a charm

This is one of the most used headline templates in copywriting, and it works great for articles as well.  Example: “How do you write an attractive headline?” (like what this is called), “How to make money online without a website”, “How to grow your own potatoes”, “How to pat a dog without it biting you.

Add a question mark at the end of the title (even if it doesn’t make too much sense)

Questions beg to be answered. And the only way to answer them, is to read your article. People are simply more attracted to questions than they are to statements. Questions consistently get a high CTR.

Use the word “you”

Again, the word “you” (or “your”) is a strong word that sucks the reader in and gets him involvled.

Shock headlines

Writing a headline that goes for the shock factor by using outrageous words. Example: “Is [product name] just a scam?” or “Is [service provider] just trying to rip you off?” or “This mistake will destroy your list building efforts”

Going against the grain/Controversy

When you make a statement that’s completely opposes common wisdom you immediately grab someone’s curiosity and attention. Examples: “Why the money ISN’T in the list” or “Do saturated fats make you thinner?”

What About Ranking in the Search engines?

On-page optimization

Include the keyword phrase at least once in the title. It will help you rank higher in the search engines. Try to keep the keyword density of your article (the amount of times that the keyword phrase you are trying to rank for appears in your article) as close to 2% as possible (2% is the highest EzineArticles allows)

Off-page optimization

Get backlinks pointing to your article with the right anchor text. The anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. All links give your page authority and help it rank in the search engines (except spammy links of course), but to rank high you also need links with anchor text that matches the keyword you want to rank for. For example: If you have a backlink pointing to your article with the anchor text: “how to make money online” it will help you rank for “how to make money online”. It will also help you rank for “make money online” and “how to make money” and other similar keywords that are close to that.

How to Write an Article That Gets the Click

How to Write an Article That Gets the Click

What to Focus on When Writing an Article?

Speed

The more articles you put out there, the more traffic you will generate and this is the simple way to write an article that gets a click.

Your article does need to provide value (and I’m going to show you how you can deliver that value without putting in too much time) but you need to focus on speed more than quality.

I know this might seem a little strange, but the difference is that with this article marketing system we are looking at value from a quantitative point of view, instead of a qualitative one.

You are not building a “personal brand” here like you are doing with forum marketing. You are just trying to funnel traffic through your affiliate link, after slightly preselling them with your article that contains a couple of helpful tips.

Why? You can write 3 mediocre/good articles in the same time it would take you to write one great one, and the extra results that you get from that one great article will be unnoticeable compared to one of the mediocre articles. The quality of your article isn’t going to change the amount of traffic that search term gets on google, and it isn’t going to change the CTR of your article too much (what I’m about to share with is going to affect your CTR MUCH more than the quality of the content of your article). You should focus on writing more, not on writing better (at least with this specific system).

Don’t get stuck on specific phrasing of a sentence, or the best order to present the information. Just focus on cranking out articles fast. Remember this: The quality of a single article is insignificant in the grander scheme of things. Having more articles out there attracting traffic from the search engines is significant.

If you find yourself thinking for more than 5 seconds about a specific sentence or paragraph, then just stop thinking and start writing something (anything) and move forward with the article.

This will take practice, but it’s worth it. The more content you can generate and put out there, the more traffic you will generate, and the more money you will make .

Effectiveness (high click-through rate)

Obviously you want to make the most out of the traffic that gets to your article. To do that, you need a high click-through rate (CTR). The higher your CTR is, the more visitors you will ultimately get to your affiliate offer. How do you do that?

Well, the most important thing is to keep the reader engaged in your article from the start to the finish. And how do you do THAT? Simple. You just follow these guidelines:

7 CTR Increasing Article Writing Guidelines

  1. Write in short and active sentences – You don’t want to bore your reader with long sentences. Keep your sentences short. Active sentences also work better than passive sentences to keep the reader’s attention and interest. Example: Instead of “The ball was dropped by the player” write “The player dropped the ball”. See how the latter sentence is also shorter?
  2. Use the word “You” a lot – “You” is one of the strongest words in any language. People are always tuned to their favorite station: W.I.I.F.M. (What’s In It For Me) and as you talk about them and get them involved, you draw them to keep on reading your article to the finish.
  3. Write as you would speak – This tip is pretty straight forward – just write as you would talk. Imagine that you were talking to a friend and put them words that you would say in a conversation on paper.
  4. Write command sentences that refer to the reader – this kind’a ties in with using “you” a lot. Again, it’s all about keeping the reader personally involved in the article until the end
  5. Keep the article 250-350 words long – 250 words is the minimum amount of words EzineArticles allows you to have in an article, so that’s obviously the minimum. I would advise you to try to keep your articles closer the 250 word range, and never above the 350 word limit (I found that CTR falls down dramatically beyond that point). You want your reader to have the least amount of reading to do before he gets to the resource box.
  6. Ask questions – Again, we are trying to get the reader involved, and asking the reader a question is a perfect way to do that. When we see a question, we automatically want an answer to it. If you ask a question, your reader will keep reading in expectation to find the answer. Alternatively, you can present a problem in your question (the reader’s problem). That would get him even more involved. For example: If the search phrase that you are targeting is “best type of home based internet business” An excellent way to start your article is with the question: “Do you want to start your own home based internet business but you aren’t sure what’s the best business model to start with?”
  7. Break the article into small paragraphs – Each paragraph should be 3-5 sentences long. That makes it easier to read. It’s also important to write this way because the layout of the article will look less intimidating to the reader when he first sees it. If the reader lands on your article and sees big chunks of written text, he just won’t feel like reading it.
